Fetal Medicine, also known as Maternal-Fetal Medicine, is a highly specialized branch of obstetrics that focuses on the health and development of both the mother and the unborn baby during pregnancy, particularly in high-risk or complicated cases. This advanced medical field combines sophisticated diagnostic imaging, genetic testing, and therapeutic interventions to monitor fetal growth, detect congenital abnormalities, chromosomal disorders, and structural defects early in pregnancy.

 Fetal medicine specialists, often called perinatologists, use state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, including 3D and 4D imaging, along with specialized procedures like amniocentesis and non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) to assess fetal wellbeing and identify potential complications.
